Background
The four breakwaters of the Nouvelle Route du Littoral showed ACCROPODE™ II breakages in an unusual proportion. CLAS was appointed to carry out an in-depth expert assessment of the armour layers.
ACCROPODE™ is a registered trademark owned by the ARTELIA group, which is in no way affiliated with CLAS.
It was essential that this expert assessment be entrusted to a service fully independent from the licence seller, in order to strictly comply with the ethical rules governing expert investigations and to avoid any risk of conflict of interest. This independence made it possible to ensure the neutrality of the analyses, the objectivity of the recommendations, and the credibility of the technical monitoring carried out by CLAS during the remedial works.

Role of CLAS
Establish the causes of the breakages.
Carry out a global risk diagnosis.
Issue the recommendations required for the remediation of the defects and the resumption of construction works.
Monitor the remedial works requested by the Engineer in charge of design, construction supervision and works acceptance.
Result
The causes of the breakages were established, and a comprehensive risk diagnosis was carried out in relation to the contractual objectives of the project.
The Engineer in charge of design, construction supervision and works acceptance implemented major remedial works on the four structures, which were monitored by CLAS at the Engineer’s request.
