The project
YEAR: 2012
PROJECT: Das Island Breakwater
COMPANY: SIXCO
CLIENT: ADNOC

Historique
SIXCO was required to install 33,333 Xbloc® units to protect the new airport on Das Island. The initial installation was carried out and checked using Echoscope®, without divers, relying solely on instrument-based guidance.
Following the first storm event, major disorders appeared within the armour layer, revealing interlocking deficiencies and several unstable areas.
IDMer, now operating as CLAS, was then called upon to carry out a comprehensive intervention:Assess the disorders and identify interlocking defects,
Train diver teams capable of performing accurate underwater inspections,
Supervise the repair of the damaged sections of the armour layer,
Certify the quality of the works once the repairs were completed.
Xbloc® is a registered trademark owned by Delta Marine Consultants (DMC).
Echoscope® is a registered trademark owned by Coda Octopus Group.
These companies are in no way affiliated with CLAS.CLAS intervened in full independence, ensuring a neutral expert assessment, an objective technical analysis, and a certification process free of any conflict of interest.
This independence made it possible to apply CLAS diver-assisted underwater inspection methods, ensuring long-term installation quality and the restored stability of the structure.

Role of CLAS
IDMer, now operating as CLAS, intervened as an independent consultant with the following assignments:
Explain the observed damage,
Propose remedial solutions for the identified non-conformities,
Train the installation teams and divers,
Monitor the construction works,
Certify the compliance of the armour layer with the design and the DMC Technical Installation Drawings (TID).

Result
The structure was delivered on schedule, without reservations at acceptance.
The breakwater was certified CLASS A, and the certification file was included in the as-built documentation (DOE).
