YEAR: 2015
PROJECT: KUANTAN NEW DEEP WATER TERMINAL
COUNTRY: MALAYSIA
COMPANY: IJM-CHEC JV
CLIENT: ECERDC
HISTORY:
CLAS carried out the full expertise of the project including respect for the desig and ACCROPODE ™ II technology.
CLAS provided ECERDC and CLI with the risk analysis resulting from this expertise.
KEY FIGURES:
8 616 ACCROPODE ™ II of 2 m3.
52 153 ACCROPODE ™ II of 4 m3.
1,364 5 m3 ACCROPODE ™ II.
MISSION:
CLAS acted as an independent expert with the following mission:
Assess the KUANTAN dam and analyze the risk.
PROCEDURE:
The CLAS inspectors checked the installed shell, the underlay and the toe stop.
Customer ECERDC requested a second opinion from an international expert independent of CLAS, CLI and the company.
Tests have been carried out on the underlay. The videos of the carapace were studied.
The diagnosis of CLAS was confirmed.
RESULT:
The work did not respect the design and ACCROPODE ™ II technology.
Unexpected movements and breakage appeared in 2016, confirming the risk analysis made by CLAS in 2015.
The expertise led by CLAS in 2015 and confirmed in 2016 allowed ECERDC to take decisions in the interest of its project.
The first company that was not able to build the structure was replaced by the Chinese company IJM-CHEC JV which produced a certified CLASS A dike, within a short time given the major repairs to be done on the underlay, the ACCROPODE ™ II shell and the feet stop.
CLAS continues this tradition of excellence and security at the service of your projects
